Chartreuse is a well-known and widely distributed herbal liqueur produced by Carthusian monks in the Chartreuse Monastery in alpine southeastern France.

The spirit undergoes a separate maceration process to the yellow Chartreuse.

Golden in colour, the liqueur has intense aromas and candied citrus sweetness with herbal notes such as licorice and fennel. Soft on the palate, the sweetness is not as pronounced as the yellow Chartreuse nor is the flavour as herbaceous as the green Chartreuse. The liqueur goes well with cloudy apple juice and lime, or simply chilled.

Chartreuse VEP stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolongé, is made from the regular Chartreuse which is then aged for an indeterminate time in oak casks until it reaches the desired quality.
