Brunello di Montalcino "Tenuta Nuova" Casanova di Neri 2001

/ #6320481
Size: 750 ml (Standard)
Red

Although called Tenuta Nuova, this wine has evolved to be the focal point of Casanova di Neri. A wine that gives us a modernist take on the Sangiovese grape, with a firm but also loving, always responsive and never overdone kiss from the casks. An expression that many of the newer players in Montalcino, who so want to impress, should study further.

Tenuta Nuova means it "the new estate", and points back to the story of Giovanni Neri, who in the mid-1980s planted Sangiovese clones on some slopes that had never before been planted with vines. There were / are a total of 15 ha. at the sites Cetine and Pietradonice on the south side of Montalcino, where the microclimate was / is a little warmer, and the goal was / is to produce an intense large drinkable Brunello, which at the same time could / can also excite many years after harvest.

The vines were grafted from old Sangiovese vines on the Cerretalto field, which Giovanni Neri had acquired a few years before and they were put into the ground after studies of what would be the optimal number of plants per hectare. ha., the optimal exposure etc. The rest is - as they say - history!

The wine has been produced in all the years since its debut in 1993, and in recent years, especially in the English-language media, it has been almost routinely celebrated with excellent reviews. For example, the 2001 vintage was "Wine of the Year 2006" in The Wine Spectator with 100 points.
