1 fl. Rings 2018 Kallstadt von Kalkfels Spätburgunder, eco, unfiltered), 91-92p/Gault-Millau, VDP
"The house was a nobody in 2007, and in 15 years it has only gone one way: UP" (Vinum 2022). Today, Rings is one of the finest red wine domains in Germany, based in Freinsheim/Pfalz with e.g. 4.5*/5 in both Vinum and Eichelmann, member of VDP since 2015. The Rings brothers are still in their mid-30s, so they still have a lot to achieve!
Wine from 35 hectares (50/50 red/white) around Freinsheim and Kallstadt. "Kalkfels" is from vineyards on the limestone cliffs of Kallstadt, one of the best areas. The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted, fermented with our own yeast and aged in small French barrels for 18 months without decanting. No clarification, no filtering.
The grapes are hand-harvested. The wine is fermented on natural yeast and aged in new and used French barriques for 18 months. The wine is unfiltered.
A very elegant pinot noir with sumptuous aromas of cherries, bright berries and herbs and a little smoke from the oak barrels. The taste is medium-bodied, very long, firm and mineral - will have a good 2-4 years. A class wine!

1 fl. 20 19 Weinparadies Freinsheim, Spätburgunder trocken, **** (4/5) in VINKENDER.blogspot.com
From the same Freinsheim, but a somewhat more humble wine, from quartz sand, while Kallstadt is more rocky, i.e. a softer wine with a wonderful youthful aroma and round soft taste.
. Freinsheim is a little north of Dürkheim at Kallstadt, but on slightly flatter "warm" land, characterized by sand. The town's cellar, "Weinparadies Freinsheim" celebrates its 110th anniversary this year, but is today merged with its larger neighbor "Vier Jahreszeiten" in Bad Dürkheim. However, the wines are still good buys.
