Tenuta di Petrolo has for a number of years distinguished itself with a pronounced focus on single-vineyard wines in the region between Florence and Siena. The house's Galatrona, made from 100% Merlot, is produced from selected plots on the property and is highly regarded among Tuscany's red wines made from this grape. The wine is classified as Toscana IGT, which gives it room to work outside the DOCG rules and focus on the expression of the grape and the area's terroir.

2018 generally delivered a cool and balanced expression in Tuscany, which has supported Galatrona's classic structure and precision. The wine's vinification involves fermentation in cement and subsequent aging in barriques. The result is a full-bodied Merlot with ripe fruit, significant tannins and potential for further development in the bottle - often estimated to be able to last 10-15 years from the harvest year.
