The estate

Established since 1808 in Tain-L'Hermitage, the house of M. Chapoutier today represents the elite of the greatest names in Rhone Valley wines.

Winemaker and merchant, Michel Chapoutier has succeeded over the years in taking this family-run winery to the top. Maison Chapoutier wines are recognized for their refinement and high quality by the finest connoisseurs beyond the borders. A man of many hats, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker. Michel Chapoutier's daughter, Mathilde, has taken up the mantle of this iconic house, overseeing over 350 hectares of vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhône Valley.

The vineyard

The 2011 L'Ermite blanc parcel cuvée from M. Chapoutier is an Ermitage wine made from a selection of old Marsanne vines, unique for their rich minerality and late ripening. Located atop the Hermitage hill, in the area known as l'Ermite, these poor soils are primarily composed of granite, also known as "gore."

Winemaking and aging

Hand-picked at full ripeness, the grapes are lightly decanted and vinified exclusively in barriques. After a long fermentation, the wine ages on the lees for 10-12 months, accompanied by regular batonnage.

Assembly

Marsanne (100%)
