The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is brooding in its intensity. Swaths of tannin, acid and mineral notes infuse the 2016 with striking gravitas. A wine of staggering proportion and breathtaking beauty, the Rabajà is the sort of wine I wish every Vinous reader could taste because it captures the essence of place and vintage with so much pedigree and so much class. Black cherry, sage, crushed rocks, menthol and lavender are some of the many nuances that linger on the eternal finish.

Produttori's plots are mainly west- and south-west-facing and receive the evening sun, but are at the same time some of the highest lying around or over 300 meters. Rabaja has a significantly warmer expression than Montestefano and Montefico, it is on the border of the liqueur, but stays on the right side. Black cherries, dried rose, tar and branca menta. It flows in like a cold stream of water in the middle of the tongue and spreads out like a fan, juiciness in the core, bites of acid and grips in the tongue edges from ripe tannin. Complete and rich, nice and biting at the same time, but once again; incomparable freshness.

1x Montefico
Vinous 98 points
The 2016 Barbaresco Montefico is a jewel of a wine. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, crushed rocks, rose petal and lavender are all finely cut. As always, the Montefico is tense and chiseled in style. Its sense of transparency is simply beguiling. Sage, mint and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the nuances that linger. The Montefico is a Barbaresco that will thrill readers who enjoy taut reds. It blends the fruit richness of the Montestefano with the verve of Ovello.

Stately, a royal wine, upright, strong in gaze, but not arrogant and swollen. Fantastic, to put it bluntly - one of those kind of people… uh hey, I mean wines that put an indelible mark on the mind. Sweet and packed with sour cherries, dried flowers and fresh figs and then comes a geological tone, a kind of wonderful Riesling rocky and mineral feel that repeats itself in the taste. Large and loud, but precise in its movements, fine-grained tannin that settles like barbs on the outside of trembling acidity and fruitiness. Painfully intense.

1x Montestefano
Vinous 98 points
The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is another profound wine in this lineup. There is virtually no perception of tannin, as the fruit is so rich and so voluptuous. Dark cherry / plum fruit, spice, menthol, licorice and a whole range of balsamic inflections grow as the Montestefano shows off its class. This profound Barbaresco will thrill readers for years to come.

Montefico and Asili in combination. Limestone pigs, reminiscent of the best editions of Vigna Rionda in Giacosa's time, except that I never tasted them when they were released, but only in mature editions. South-southeast facing and sheltered from both the river and north wind by Montefico's ridge just north. Ripe nebbiolo when it is most elegant with cranberry juice, bitter rowan berries, vanilla-like sloe kernels, the purest notes of bubble juice from Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri, menthol, the king of Denmark, an airy maelstrom, effervescent but perfumed. Powerful of course, biting tannin, ripe fresh acid, but first and foremost a wine that is enjoyed up in the mouth and nose. Almost blood orange and Ethiopian coffee in the aftertaste. One of the most talented young barbarian shoes I have ever tasted.
