Domaine Gille - Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru 2016
/ #41937014
Domaine GILLE Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru 2016 is produced exclusively from Pinot NOir grapes from the Grand Cru field Les Renardes, which is located on the eastern side, with southeast exposure, of the famous Corton hill in the village of Aloxe-Corton.
The Corton hill connects Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton, and also the Côte de Nuits with the Côte de Beaune and signals a change in the landscape.
The vineyards on the Corton hill are the only ones in the Côte de Beaune where the red wines are classified as Grand Cru.
The Domaine Gilles plot is planted with over 50-year-old vines, which grow in a clay-limestone and pebble-dominated soil that helps to create elegance and minerality in the wines.
The grapes for Domaine Gille Corton Grand Cru Les Renardes are harvested by hand, after which they are left for a short maceration for just 5 days and fermentation then and naturally begins.
The wine is then aged for 18 months in medium-roasted oak barrels, 1/3 of which are new.
The experience
Domaine Gille Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru 2016 is adorned by a powerful and deep dark red color - and an equally powerful bouquet, with depth and elegance.
A unique and beautiful red Corton Burgundy according to all the rules of the art!
Seductive scent with aromas of violets, dark cherries and the forest floor of berries and mushrooms, which also repeats itself in the powerful and fruity taste, which with age will develop notes of leather and animal touches.
Can be enjoyed young, but will have its full potential of aroma, taste and experience at the age of 20-25 years.
Enjoy it tempered between 12-16 degrees and preferably with dishes with mushrooms, poultry, such as quail, country chicken with corn, mushrooms and raspberries, or grandma's chicken, as well as happy pig, game, veal, sprats, Foie Gras or red meat.
About the manufacturer
Domaine GILLE is located in the beautiful medieval village of Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, between the towns of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, in the heart of one of France's most recognized and prestigious wine regions.
The Domaine GILLE wine estate, with associated cellars, in the form we know it today, has been located here since the beginning of the 20th century, when it was founded by Vivant GILLE.
The GILLE family, the name and tradition in the world of wine, can be traced back more than 400 years to 1570, from which the vineyards in Comblanchien have been passed down from father to son until today - through more than 7 generations.
And the family name "GILLE" is thus the oldest in the area around the village, if not the entire region.
Domaine GILLE is run today with Pierre Gille and his son Matthew at the helm, who carry on the proud traditions of the winery entirely in the spirit of the family and with great respect.
The vineyards stretch over 9.5 hectares, which have spread over time from Nuit St. Georges, to also include fields in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny and Morey St. Denis, as well as fields in the Côte de Beaune, which include involve a plot in the Grand Cru field Corton Les Renardes.
The wines are produced in the classical sense and according to the traditions, passed down for generations.
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before they are destemmed in the old cellars and put into tanks, adapted both according to size and from each and every parcel. Then they are sorted into tanks adapted to the size from the individual parcels.
The fermentation is not manipulated, but allowed to take place completely naturally. This is done to produce a particular style, so that the wines from Domaine Gille in the best conditions to reflect the vintage and the unique "terroir" where the grapes have grown.
"Burgundy wines should not be manufactured or mass-produced. The grapes from the small parcels should just be told where in the area they were grown and when", Quote: Pierre Gille.
