The iconic reserva from Rioja, created in 1858 together with winemakers from Bordeaux, one of the first with storage in small oak barrels. It was the first Spanish wine to receive a gold medal in Bordeaux, which still adorns the classic label.
The wine became so popular that the awning had to wrap steel wire around the bottles to protect itself against counterfeits! And this is still imitated more than 150 years later ... The wine comes from a 500 hectare domain in Rioja Alavesa + grapes on contract, which are bought by the current awning ...
2016 is beautiful classic Rioja (93% tempranillo, 7% graciano, whole 24 months in oak + 3 years in bottle. Beautiful now after 6 years, but probably better in 3-5 years. The vineyard is run 100% organic, but grapes are also bought in from neighbors, and the wine therefore does not have an organic certificate.
The price is ridiculous - a lot of Rioja or other Spanish with the same rating costs more than DKK 169 - for each bottle!
