A classic Médoc from a good château in a really good vintage, which can be enjoyed now (although there is no rush at all) in a big beautiful bottle. A round, powerful wine with a promising bouquet and good length. In a large bottle it can live for 10-20 years. NB: The wines have been bought and paid for and a receipt is available! A total of 4 Magnums are available.
The castle is one of the best known in Blaignan north of St Estèphe. A manor seat from the 15th century was bought in 1700 by Louis Alexandre Bourbon, who was Count of Orléans and French Grand Admiral. The château is owned by Crédit Agricole, which also owns Grand-Puy Ducasse, Pauillac, 5.Cru and Rayne Vigneau, 1.Cru Sauternes. The wine is made in collaboration with the famous oenologist Denis Dubourdieu.
The castle is quite large with 87 hectares of vines, about equal parts cabernet and merlot. Low yield - below 40 hl/ha, operation close to organic. The harvest is quite late and the wine undergoes a long controlled fermentation before aging in steel and small oak barrels. The wine is selected with care.
About the year 2015:
91p/Wine Enthusiast: "Intense and rich, this is an opulent, concentrated wine. Powerful, dense and packed with black fruits, this shows solid aging potential. The tannins are already integrating with the generous berry fruits and the acidity, to give an impressive wine. Drink from 2024."
89-90p/VertdeVin: "The nose is fruity, aromatic and relatively fine. It reveals notes of black berries, cassis and a hint of fruit jam associated with a hint of coffee, oak and a fine note of menthol. The palate is fruity , gourmand, sleek, harmonious, balanced, silky and offers a small minerality and a small tension. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blackberry, black cherry and slight notes of black berries associated with slight notes of raspberry, fresh red cherry, tobacco , Zan, a discreet touch of blueberry cream and a touch clove. Tannins are fine and quite ripe... Good length and persistence with notes of roasted oak and a fine touch of coffee."
