Haut-Médoc is located in the southern part of the Medoc district on the left bank of Bordeaux. The appellation of the same name is particularly known for the famous left bank municipalities; Margaux, Paulliac, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien. The vineyards outside these appellations are typically further away from the river and may use the Haut-Médoc appellation. Here the soil is characterized by gravelly clay over a heavy and deep clay that has been carried with the current in the Garonne river over time. There are also areas with more lime and/or sand in the soil, the further away from the river you go. In the 1800s, large parts of the area were swampland, which the Dutch drained to cultivate viticulture.

Château La Lagune can date its history back to the 16th century, when the first Dutch began to drain the swampy landscape of Haut-Médoc and plant vines. In 1730, the castle was built by a famous architect of the time and thus viticulture became rooted in the castle's agriculture. The De-Sèze family owned the château until the 1855 classification, when La Lagune was classified 3rd cru château. The castle changed hands several times before George Brunette bought it in 1958 in a dilapidated state with only a few hectares. vineyards that could still produce grapes. He began the renovation that ended up putting the castle back on the path to perfection. today is 80 ha. under vineyards on the gravelly clay soils.
