Chateau de Pressac Saint-Émilion 1962
/ #56899501
Chateau de Pressac is located on the eastern slope of Saint-Émilion, where the estate has a complex terroir characterized by limestone and clayey soil. The estate has the status of Grand Cru in the Saint-Émilion classification. It is expected that the grape composition in 1962 was Merlot-dominated, supported by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others, reflecting the tradition of the region.
The 1962 vintage is remembered in Bordeaux for generally stable growing conditions and not least for wines that proved to have surprisingly good shelf life over time. The wine will today primarily be a collector's item, and one should expect that age has given significant development of tertiary aromas, while the primary fruit has naturally diminished. However, the structure from the limestone soil can often be felt with a distinct minerality and freshness even in mature wines from this area.
