Sassicaia is among the most high-profile wines from Bolgheri in western Tuscany and was the first wine to achieve the official Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. It is made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and is typically aged in French barriques, which gives the wine both structure and complexity. 2012 was a hot and dry year in Tuscany, which generally produced wines with ripe fruit and focused tannin structure, but here the balance is maintained thanks to Sassicaia's classic, cool expression and elegant minerality. It is a wine with significant aging potential, but in this vintage it is already available with dark fruit sweetness and finesse length. Among international critics, 2012 Sassicaia often appears with ratings around 94-96 points (e.g. Wine Advocate and Vinous), which reflects both the quality of the grapes and a successful year in Bolgheri.
