Giovanni canonica Barolo del Comune di Grinzane 2017
/ #68499121
In the northern part of Piedmont, Grinzane Cavour is known for delivering Barolo with a distinct balance between structure and finesse. This 2017 edition comes from a period of early warmth, resulting in ripe tannins and relatively open wines. Working exclusively with Nebbiolo, Giovanni Canonica is among the smaller, traditional producers who value artisanal approaches and natural methods in the cellar. Longer macerations and aging in large barrels give a classic style with a focus on the expression of the terroir.
The 2017 already appears relatively accessible for Barolo, but with potential for further development over a few years. The wine has a mineral profile, red berries, spice and fine tannins that make it an interesting choice both now and after a short aging. Production is limited, and fans of more traditional Barolo styles in particular will be looking for these bottles.
