A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.
The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru, which contains just under 50% stems, demands more coaxing than the Les Amoureuses, eventually revealing cranberry and hints of hoisin, sous-bois, tobacco and crushed stone aromas, all very complex. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannin framing pure dark berry fruit laced with brown spice, tobacco and sage. This Musigny displays wonderful density and power, yet retains the precision of a noble Burgundy on the long finish. Outstanding.” – Antonio Galloni 95-97 Points

Aromas of blood orange rose petals and ripe wild berries introduce the 2017 Musigny Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) a full-bodied deep and layered wine with superb depth and mid-palate amplitude a generous core of sappy fruit and fine chalky structuring tannins. It's a gorgeous Musigny that might well develop along the lines of the superb 2000 rendition. Barnier told me that this was one of the few cuvees chez Jadot that saw some whole cluster this year.

CT-note: Wonderfully balanced and in great shape! It needed 1-2 hours to really open up and gain weight, but was expressive the entire evening. The nose screamed Chambertin, with bright red fruit (cherry, strawberry), damp earth, licorice and spice. Well balanced, concentrated, complex and intriguing.

This Cuvée is made up from 5 superbly-placed Volnay Premier Cru lots (En Caillerets, Carelle Sous la Chapelle, Frémiets, Taillepieds and Le Village). Only 3-5 barrels are produced annually.
For many years now, the Domaine’s vineyards have been cultivated taking a sustainable, environmentally-friendly approach (no chemical inputs), and even according to organic principles when the conditions over the year allow it, as they did in 2018.
Bright purple in color. Nose with lively raspberry fruit and intensity, a hint of licorice. A rather firm and dense mouth that does not remove the wine’s nice subtlety.
