Domino De Pingus in royal vintage!
Year 2014 is "completely excellent", says Peter Sisseck. 2014 was one of the best vintages of the last decade in Ribera del Duero. The weather conditions were perfect, the large temperature difference between day and night provided ideal conditions for the grapes to reach full maturity and at the same time retain finesse. The result was of exceptional quality. Peter Sisseck believes that 2014 – Pingus twentieth vintage – is the best since the premiere year in 1995.
The grapes are sorted both during the harvest and in the wine cellar and then fermented in 2,000 liter wooden barrels without added yeast, together with 30% whole bunches of grapes. The wine is then matured in once and twice used Bourgogne casks (no new casks anymore) for 20 months after which, after tastings and analyses, it is blended and bottled without clarification or filtration.
The result again phenomenal and another proof that Peter's journey away from the new dishes and the monumental expression is already a happy one of its kind. Here are exotic aromas where violets, blackberries, cherries and sweaty figs merge with withered roses, dried fruits, mocha, caramel, mushrooms and forest floor. Full, but not ongoing. Instead, seductive and almost free of edges because the tannins are wrapped in fruit and spices. The wine is simply sumptuous and sets new standards for the concepts of finesse and elegance in Ribera del Duero.
