The finesse and aromatic richness of a Tuscan red wine
The property
Tenuta San Guido is a point of reference for the great wines of Tuscany, located between Livorno and Grosseto, born from the marriage between the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and Clarice della Gherardesca. In 1942, Mario decided to plant Cabernet Sauvignon vines in this area of Tuscany, thus signing the birth of Sassicaia a few years later. In 1983, Tenuta San Guido became the first estate in Italy to receive its own denomination with the consecration of the Bolgheri DOC in 1983.
The vineyard
Produced since 2002, Tenuta San Guido's Difese 2020 is a Tuscan IGT wine obtained from vineyards planted on a mosaic of soils composed of limestone, stones, pebbles and partly clay. Located between 100 and 300 meters above sea level, these vineyards have a west/south-west exposure.
The vintage
Autumn and early winter were characterized by high humidity and temperatures that alternated between mild and cool. The mildness of spring favored early budding in the vineyard. The drop in temperatures and the frosts recorded at the end of March did not have an excessive impact on the vineyard. Although the appearance of secondary buds led to a decline in yields, the quality and concentration were better. From mid-June onwards, sunny, hot and dry days settled in without consequences for the vineyard thanks to the sufficient water reserves. Despite the lower yields, the quality is excellent.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are hand-picked and hand-selected before being delicately de-stemmed. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maceration in contact with the skins for 13-18 days depending on the grape variety, with frequent pumping over and decanting to ensure optimal extraction. Malolactic fermentation in steel vats. Aged for 8 months in French and American oak barrels of 2 and 3 wines (barrels used for the Guidalberto cuvée).
Assembly

Bentivoglio is the expression of 3 fundamental concepts of the new Tuscan viticulture and enology of red wines.
Grape variety: Clonal selection Sangiovese
Yield per vine: very low Aging: in oak wood
The great Sangiovese grape variety with its olfactory and gustatory elegance loves aging in French oak barrels. For this reason, Tenuta Farneta has kept it partly in French barriques and partly in 30 HL barrels. For about 18 months the refinement in the bottle followed

Intensely fruity and complex on the nose, full-bodied, rich and complex in the mouth with exceptional structure and a lengthy finish.
The original Super-Tuscan, Tignanello is produced exclusively from the Tignanello vineyard, a 47 hectares (116 acres) southwest-facing, calcareous rocky-marl and limestone soil plot with tufaceous elements, planted between 1,150 and 1,312 feet above sea level at Antinori’s Santa Cristina Estate. It was the first Sangiovese to be aged in small oak barrels, the first red wine in modern times to use a non-traditional grape variety, Cabernet, in the blend, and among the first red wines made in Chianti with no white grapes. In all three instances, it set the example for a new breed of exceptional top-of-the-line Italian wine.
Tignanello, originally a Chianti Classico Riserva labeled Vigneto Tignanello, was first vinified as a single vineyard wine in the 1970 vintage, when it contained 20% Canaiolo and 5% Trebbiano and Malvasia, and was aged in small oak cooperage. With the 1971 vintage the wine became a Vino da Tavola della Toscana and was named Tignanello after the vineyard from which it originates. Beginning with this vintage, Tignanello stopped adhering to the rules laid down by Chianti Classico Disciplinare, and with the 1975 vintage, white grapes were totally eliminated. Since the 1982 vintage, the blend has been 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Tignanello was not produced in the 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1984 and 1992 vintages.
