Silver Oak Alexander Valley 1986 in perfect condition in all respects

Located between the Silverado Trail and the city of Oakville, Silver Oak has always been synonymous with Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in 1972 by Justin Meyer and entrepreneur Ray Duncan, Silver Oak has always focused on producing food-friendly Cabernet Sauvignon that was immediately enjoyable but retained excellent aging potential. For this reason, Silver Oak wines are aged for 24 months in American oak barrels and for well over a year in the bottle before being marketed. Having always been faithful to these principles has made Silver Oak a cult winery in the United States. In a 2007 interview David Duncan recalls "For the first five years we didn't sell a bottle at Silver Oak, then it was sold-out for 28 consecutive years." Today Silver Oak is the best-selling premium Californian Cabernet Sauvignon in America and despite the many purchase offers received, it continues to be a family business, whose leadership is now entrusted to David Duncan, Ray's son.
AMERICAN OAK, THE SECRET OF SILVER OAK

One of the peculiarities of Silver Oak is that it uses exclusively American oak, unlike most wineries in the world which use French oak. When a journalist asked Meyer why he used exclusively American oak he replied "American oak gives less tannins than French oak, and I love tannic wines as much as well-done steaks". In fact, American oak releases less tannins than French oak and at the same time gives more pronounced aromas of vanilla, coconut and sweet spices. As they mature in the bottle, Silver Oak Cabernets continue to soften and slowly the sweet notes evolve, leaving spicy hints of tobacco and leather. In 2015 Silver Oak acquired A&K Cooperage, a Missouri company specialized in the production of American oak barrels, thus becoming the first winery in the United States to have full control over the quality of its barriques.
