A classic 100% Riesling from one of Germany's finest vineyards with probably the world's most famous sundial, erected in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm, ancestor of owner Stefan Paul. Only 400 cases bottled of this wine.
Wonderful aroma, quite full and long with wonderful slight sweetness, balanced by crisp acidity. "Distinctive, roasted agave, mango and chamomile flavors that are salty and rich. Silky on the palate, with bitter minerality and lemon-lime acidity and zest. Drink now through 2028. 400 cases made" -Spectator.
Sonnenuhr was significantly expanded in 1971, but the best comes from the heart of the sundial, which is owned by the Prüm family, of which Dr Pauly-Bergweiler is a part. Stefan Pauly is the 12th generation of the family. In 1911, part of Mathias Prüm's vineyard was given to Maria Katharina Prüm (1884-1954), married to Zacharias Bergweiler-Prüm, of whom Stefan is a grandson. In total, the Pauly-Bergweilers own 17 hectares (130,000 fl/year), of which 0.85 hectares are in Sonnenuhr. Therefore, only 400 cases of this fine riesling.
The wines are made in hypermodern cellars, where the Doctor (Dr Pauly!) can keep an eye on the child. SIden stores the wine in the beautiful old cellar near the Moselle at the beautiful old town of Bernkastel. The cellar is visited annually by thousands of wine lovers.
Sonnenuhr is with one of the great wines in gutsabfüllung from Dr Pauly. Which also bottles wine bought in from outside. , which is bought in from outside, Noble House and Premium, which are good buys.
