Flor De Pingus 2016
/ #232167
Another giant wine that EVERYONE knows by now. If PSI was popular, then many would just talk about his Flor De Pingus series - and then the Pingus series ... I have searched the web once again and find the strongest price for the 795, - bottle online. Which, incidentally, is also a good price for this wine. But those who have followed in here, know that we have to beat the prices - so we do :-)
I am personally a huge fan of the Flor series. It is in a price range - where you can easily follow the "special" evenings where you just want to offer the extra to your guests. Contra Pingus series where you are almost ruined by just buying one (they will also be on soon, I can not afford to drink / buy them myself - unfortunately)
The party here is limited. Everything you can get from Peter Sisseck is like selling sweets to adults - you can never get enough and it goes sold out in a ruf - when the price is right. So it's a luck I actually have some left. Buy a bottle, one box or the whole batch. It is always good business to have FDPs in stock.
Sincerely,
Tobias
The nerd:
"In recent years, Peter Sisseck has begun to strive for the juiciness and finesse of the wines rather than the violent and the impressive, and this means that the wines begin to open up to the delights a little earlier than before, and that the fruit is likely to stay fresh even longer. therefore dare to claim that Peter Sisseck is in great shape here in the 2016 vintage. Tempranillo. ”
It is thus noted that Flor de Pingus now comes with more alcohol than Pingus and that, so to speak, is used to grind the edges of the new dishes, so that they do not disturb too much when Pingus himself has to convey his terroir and his minerality. A philosophy which, among other things, is also practiced at Fleur de Petrus in Pomerol. "- Løgismose
REGION
Castilla Y León is located northwest of Madrid and is the largest of Spain's 17 regions. The climate is continental with large fluctuations in temperature between day and night. The region covers 9 DOs here among some of Spain's highest estimated. The vast majority of production is red wine and Tempranillo reigns in Ribera del Duero and Toro, while Mencia has its stronghold in Bierzo. Most famous for white wine is Rueda, where both Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc are grown.
DISTRICT
Ribera del Duero is located in the region of Castilla Y Leon in northern Spain and is considered one of the country's best wine districts. The vineyards spread on each side of the Duero river on a plateau between 500 and 900 masl. The climate is extremely continental with hot and dry summers and raw cold winters. Virtually the entire production consists of red wine with emphasis on Tempranillo accompanied by small amounts of Albillo and Garnacha as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. Garnacha is also used to make small amounts of rosé wine.
"Even though it's young, this shows amazing perfume that should bloom with a year in bottle. This has all the signals to become one of the greatest vintages of Flor de Pingus" writes Luis Gutiérrez on behalf of Robert Parker and acknowledges with 93-95 points as he tastes the final blend from the steel tank shortly before bottling.
