Tenuta di Trinoro - Le Cupole 2020

/ #23836022
Size: 750 ml (Standard)
Red

Le Cupole, the second wine for Tenuta di Trinoro, is made from the four grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then stored in one to three year old barriques and finally it rests in cement barrels. The wine hits the palate with an abundance of ripe fruit, spices and soft tannins. It tastes good now, but can easily be stored for +10 years. Le Cupole is always flamboyant, velvety and immediately accessible.

Tenuta di Trinoro - 100 points producer:
In the south-eastern corner of Tuscany, Tenuta di Trinoro specializes in rich and age-worthy red wines. The most important lesson he learned from a stay in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw in the harsh forest area that would become Trinoro, clay-limestone and gravel soil that is incredibly reminiscent of Saint-Émilion. Only selected plots were suitable for viticulture, and he cleared them by hand and planted them in the style of Bordeaux. This high-density vines, meter by meter, with cuttings sourced from some of Bordeaux's best châteaux.

Dense planting, massive pruning, low yield, extreme ripeness and intense flavor concentration characterize the style. The wines are highly perfumed and sumptuous, they are at once welcoming and intended to develop for many years.

Andrea Franchetti (who sadly passed away at the end of 2021) was one of Italy's most fascinating winemakers and personalities. He was born to an American mother and an Italian father, and raised in Rome - surrounded by artists.

Exploration and experimentation therefore became a fixed part of his DNA. He left home at 18 and cycled to Afghanistan. He then spent time in New York's East Village in the 1960s, where he also opened an import business in the 1980s. The focus was on great Italian wines, which were then beginning to mix on the international scene.

Franchetti left city life in the 90s when he began restoring the ruins of a country house in the Val d'Orcia, where he wanted to make wine. Without any experience in winemaking, he went to Bordeaux where he learned from several great winemakers. In 1991 he planted his first vines and in 1997 he launched the first vintage of Tenuta di Trinoro.
