Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 'Clos du Marquis 1990

Surprisingly, Château Léoville-Las Cases is both the castle that can boast of being one of the first to introduce a so-called 2nd wine and the castle that most recently got a 2nd wine (back) on the program. The explanation is this Clos du Marquis which was first produced in 1902, but which since the 1989 vintage has not shared fruit with Le Grand Vin. The Delon family has for years spent a lot of energy telling that their Clos du Marquis was not a 2nd wine, but an independent wine created from grapes harvested from the property's western plots farthest from the river.
