Flor de Pingus 2003

/ #4140807
Size: 750 ml (Standard)
Red

Flor de Pingus 2003 comes from partially rented vines all planted near the two plots that feed the Pingus itself. The vines are just younger, but with plants between 35 and 45 years old, they are still well-grown vines. Vines whose roots penetrate deep into the subsoil. And going forward, it contributes great minerality to the wine. As with Pingus, it is 100% Tempranillo and the harvest yield is still low, maximum 25 hl. / ha. The wine ferments in large wooden barrels, and most is left to nature.

This is followed by 14 months of a mix of new French barrels and barrels that have been used for Pingus before bottling. This is done without clearing and filtering. The wine is in many ways a mirror of Pingus, and the quality and style differences are far smaller than the price difference indicates.

Thus, the wine has slowly picked up on the big brother of the good Robert Parker, and from 2004 onwards the rating is 95-98 points. Pingus scores 98-100 points in the same period. This led in 2008 to Parker's husband in Spain Jay Miller to conclude that “In the price / quality sweepstakes, this might be Spain's finest wine.
