It was the spring of 1814, when Lieutenant Colonel Charles Palmer, during a stagecoach journey through France, thanks to the charm of the soldier in uniform, managed to convince the noblewoman Marie Brunet de Ferrière to sell him the Médoc vineyards she had just inherited. Without ever having even visited the vineyards, the man who was born the son of a brewer and who would become a major general in the British army, became the owner of Domaine de Gascq, a wine estate renowned for the quality of its wines, as well as a company that over the course of three decades it was expanded and modernized by the new owner, Charles Palmer, who would later give his name to the cellar, baptizing it "Château Palmer". Purchased towards the end of the 19th century by the brothers Émile and Isaac Pereire, the company was further enlarged, to finally be consecrated, in 1938, among the most prestigious crus in the entire Bordeaux region. Currently belonging to the Mähler-Besse family, the estate is managed by Thomas Duroux, a world-famous winemaker who is also well known in Italy. Counting on a vineyard area of up to 66 hectares, falling within the Cantenac sub-area of Margaux, the company sees its vines grow on gravelly, sandy and clayey soils, where the cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot plants come to bear fruit simply extraordinary, harvested only when perfect phenolic ripeness is reached. In the cellar, each production process is controlled and monitored with scruple and extreme attention, constantly pursuing the highest possible quality levels

The 1993 Palmer is significantly rich and concentrated, showing an excellent dark ruby color and an attractive, early-developing bouquet of smoky aromas, black fruits (plenty of cherries!), moist earth and spice. . The wine is medium-bodied, with enough ripe fruit and succulence to be considered almost opulent. Silky with a toasted oak character with medium body, fine tannins and delicate finish.
