The crown jewel of Italian winemaking. The legendary Barolo Riserva Monfortino from the Giacomo Conterno winery is the jewel in the crown of our entire production. The only Italian label capable of competing with the prices of the most renowned French bottles, confirming itself as a true asset allocation for those who consider wine as an alternative investment to the Stock Exchange.

But, obviously, in addition to representing an important investment, Monfortino is perfection in the glass, to be drunk at least once in a lifetime. The result of a solid and simple production philosophy: according to Roberto Conterno (grandson of the founder Giacomo), good wine only needs maturity, time and decanting. Coming from the legendary Francia vineyard, it is produced only in great years and is put on the market after eight years of maturation. A monumental and exciting wine, the absolute masterpiece of Italian winemaking.

Antonio Galloni/Vinous
“I really like the 2000. A model of total finesse and delicacy, the 2000 doesn’t have the volume or power of the 1997, but perhaps just a little more refined. Today, the 2000 is a little shy. What might it blossom into in a few years? I can’t wait to find out. From a magnum, the 2000 Monfortino is pure seduction. Tasted from a magnum.” (5/2014)

Wine Advocate by Robert Parker
Conterno’s 2000 Barolo Riserva Monfortino feels approachable only because it’s so open compared to some of the surrounding vintages of this great, legendary Barolo. The 2000 has tons of fruit supported by considerable tannic weight. Sweet, balsamic notes appear in the glass as it ages, but this is one of the few 2000s that needs considerable age to show its full potential.” (5/2011)

Wine Spectator
“Dark ruby red. Subtle and reserved on the nose, with blackberry, tea, sandalwood and blueberry. Opens to coffee and vanilla bean. Full-bodied, with a surprising and condensed palate of ultra-ripe fruit and silky tannins. Fresh and very long. Very tight and fresh. Needs so much time to open up and give its all. Like a genie in the bottle. Best since 2014.” (12/2007)
