2018 - Domaine Courbet

Les Rondos is a plot that stands and tilts on the border of the Château Chalon. Only 0.7 ha. planted with cuttings from Meursault by father Jean-Marie in the winter of 1987-88.

These are hand-harvested grapes and on top of the almost non-existent 2017 vintage, in 2018 there are generous amounts of fruit, which were grooming already out in the vineyard and then followed a direct pressing of the whole clusters before fermentation without foreign yeast strains that was followed by 18 months of maturation in 228 liter Burgundy casks (10% new) prior to bottling, which took place without clarification and filtration and with only a minimal addition to the naturally occurring sulfur.

A fascinating wine with wonderful crisp apples, iris and exemplary ripe citrus, which already mingles intimately with the well-tuned spices from the casks. Full-bodied, but first and foremost sparkling clean with a fascinating minerality, which lifts the wine from first to last sip.

It's a magnificent Chardonnay to be enjoyed as the distinguished Jura ambassador it is. But along the way, it is then allowed to just think of the Chardonnay wines from the golden slopes. There are many far more expensive white Burgundies that can not be included here at all.
