The Judge is considered the flagship of Kongsgaard's white wines and comes from a field that is deliberately cultivated and vinified for a distinct concentration. The Chardonnay grapes are vinified traditionally and often undergo fermentation and aging in new oak, resulting in a wine with depth, structure and intense minerality.
2021 is generally described as a year of lower yields but excellent ripeness, often producing wines with both power and balance. The style is characteristically rich with pronounced acidity, and this vintage is widely considered to have excellent aging potential.
The Judge has received high ratings from Wine Advocate and Vinous, among others, in almost all vintages, and in 2021 the wine again achieves high scores (Vinous 100 points). A wine that generally develops nicely over time, but can also be experienced in its youth for its intensity and complexity.
