/ #4919745
Size: 750 ml (Standard)

Lyndenhurst is Spottswoode's bid for a Cabernet Sauvignon that comes close to the Estate wine in quality and personality, but does so at a more affordable price. It is Spottswoode's clear ambition with Lyndenhurst to deliver an exceptional price-quality ratio, and this is achieved by combining fruit from the central vineyard with grapes from other high-class fields. When you add to this Spottswoode's undeniable Cabernet expertise, it's no wonder Lyndenhurst often scores remarkable ratings.

The name Lyndenhurst can be traced back to the year 1900, when the whole property was once called Lyndenhurst, when several linden trees were planted near the main house, where the descendants of these beautiful richly flowering trees still grow to this day. In 2013, Lyndenhurst is composed of 92 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 percent Malbec, while the rest of the blend is equal parts Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Taken together, it gives a slightly softer and more immediately accessible version of the Estate wines special character, but with much the same finesse and aroma richness that one finds in the Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon itself.

Rich Cook gives Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst 2016 96 points and the following rating: If you do not already know the difference between Spottswoode's two different Cabernet wines, then here's an insider tip: Lyndenhurst is the cheaper of the two, and in 2016 it has never been better. It is predominantly used fruit from the Estate property itself, where grapes from other of Spottswoode's properties have been added. It's a Wow bottle from a Wow vintage, and it's a wine with a remarkably favorable price-quality ratio. It is a wine made to be available already as a youngster, but it would be wise to store an appropriate number of bottles in the cellar. This is such a solid structure and such genuine beauty that it promises a future magnificent elegance. Bravo!

Vinography
Very dark garnet in the glass, this wine smells of cherry and black cherry and a touch of herbs. In the mouth, bright cherry and cola and tobacco leaf notes are gushing with fantastic acidity. Hints of cedar and earth rumble beneath the bright fruit. Delicious. Between 9 and 9.5 / 10 points

James Suckling
Attractive, fresh, violet-like flowers, roasting herbs and cassis, leading to a medium-to full-bodied palate that has a smoothly succulent resolve at the plum-soaked, velvety finish. A blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon with touches of petit verdot, merlot and cabernet franc and a dash of malbec. Drink or hold. 94 points.

Vinous
Another gorgeous wine in this range, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst is wonderfully fresh, vibrant and nuanced. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender, new leather and menthol overtones develop in the glass, but like so many 2016s, the Lyndenhurst simply dazzles with its exquisite balance and total class.

The 2016 Spottswoode Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully balanced and elegant wine. This wine is authentic with its aromas and flavors of red and black fruits. It's dry, well-built, yet soft touch on the palate makes a superb candidate with a well-seasoned Porchetta. 93 points.

Since 1972, the Novak family has owned and cultivated the Spottswoode Estate, and as early as 1985, they switched to ecology. The winery was certified in 1992, and this early "green" start is quite unusual in California. The Novak family has from the outset been more than usual foresighted - not least when they acquired the unique fields located in an area that is as created for Cabernet Sauvignon. The geology is optimal, and the climates are warm, but not too warm, as you get a saving sea breeze from a nearby mountain pass. It ensures sufficiently cool nights and an autumn weather that allows for a long and complete ripening, while maintaining the elegance and freshness of the wines.

The Spottswoode property is located on the west side of St. Helena on the border of the Mayacamas Mountains, and there well with famous vineyards in the neighborhood. For example, David Abreus' Madrona Vineyard is directly opposite the fields of Spottswoode, which have been planted with vines as far back as 1882. The English-sounding name is due to a Mrs. Albert Spotts, who in 1910 christened the property with the now world-famous Spottswoode name.

In the Novak family, it is especially the women who have drawn the profile of the vineyard and have done so with a sure hand. From the outset, it has been chosen that it is the basic wine - the Estate wine - that contains the highest quality. Unlike many of the area's top growers, specialty cuvées or single-field wines are not marketed as being the property's most prestigious. No, a Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon is and will be a Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon. A sympathetic and easy-to-understand principle that has spawned streaks of topratings. For example, at Robert Parker, where Spottswoode has to date scored the unattainable 100 points five times, while in four other cases they have had to "settle" with 99 points. Well done.

You also have 24 different plots to choose from, so you include only the absolute best in the final blend for the Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon itself. In 2006, another important step was taken to ensure the highest possible quality: Aron Weinkauf was hired, who today is both a Wine Maker and at the same time responsible for the operation of the vineyards. and continuing to rise, but it is also remarkably stable - even in the more difficult years.
