Unique champagne that can be compared to Bollinger's iconic Vieilles Vignes Françaises, as the vines are not grafted onto American rootstocks, which is otherwise customary almost everywhere in Champagne and the rest of the wine world due to the devastating phylloxera. However, the sandy soil at Les Coupes means that there is less risk of this field being affected. That is why it was decided to plant these ungrafted pinot noir vines almost 50 years ago. In the style of Bollinger, Maillart produces an insanely complex and powerful champagne from this field, which is spiced up with additional complexity from the vinification in small barrels. Here are red and dark berries, ripe citrus fruits, warm spices and toasted notes. An intense taste of these notes ends in an incredibly long aftertaste that continues for eternity. Big, voluminous and super interesting champagne.
