Dr Thanisch Doctor Riesling Kabinett, 92+p/Parker 2019

92 + p / Parker mv. The legendary Doctor from Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraf, whose 1921 Doctor TBA in the 1980s was the most expensive wine sold in Germany. The wine is "only" Kabinett, but could legally call itself Auslese, as you would expect from TLD! Still young, but sumptuous wine with rich aroma, some sweetness, but firm acidity and long taste.
Dr. Thanisch was the original owner - and owner of the heart - of the entire legendary 3.25-acre Doctor Mountain, which got its name in the 14th century, when a sick elector is said to be healed by drinking the wine from this mountain. Today, Wegeler also owns a large chunk, while the Lauerburg and Heiliggeist Church (which have leased it to Molitor and Schloss Lieseer) each own just over 1/4 hectare. In the 1980s, Thanisch was inherited by two, with Müller-Burggraf being the best for many today, thanks to the talented young leader, Maximiian Berger. He combines modern methods with ancient virtues and places particular emphasis on physiologically ripe grapes with fine acids and balanced sweetness.
The domain Dr Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraf covers 16 hectares, all close to Doctor in Bernkastel (except small plot to red in Lieser), which is sold under just 4 field names: Doctor, Graben, Lay and Badstube. Old ungrafted vines give low yields, rarely over 40 hl / ha, which are made in the over 300 year old Doctor cellar under the mountain itself (and then stored in new cellars on the outskirts of Bernkastel). The Doctor section covers 1 acre with 100-year-old ungrafted vines with extremely low yields.
