The landscape in Pommerol is flat and the property is quite small and looks like small residential plots. This property, owned by Nicolas and Christophe de Bailliencourte, is considered one of the larger. This is despite the fact that in the 1970s some hectares were sold to the neighboring property Chateau Petrus. Pommerol is 749 hectares, and is the only area in Bordeaux that produces really great wines. The vines at Chateau Gazin are on average 35 years old and the grapes are harvested by hand.

The wine is made from 90% merlot, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 3% cabernet franc. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, of which 50% are new barrels. It is a powerful and full-bodied wine that possesses notes of sweet plums, ripe figs and dark cherries. An excellent wine with enough fullness, structure and density to be able to live a long life.

96 points by Robert Parker.
