Great wine, and the reason I enjoyed Pauillac again.

Chateau Anseillan is located as part of Chateau Lafite Rothschild and has existed since the 1600s but was only acquired by Ch. Lafite Rothschild in 1970 thanks to Elie de Rothschild.

Anseillan is produced by the team behind Château Lafite Rothschild and comes from selected plots in the northern Médoc. It works primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, vinified with a focus on structure and balance. The wine is considered a standalone label – not a second wine – and clearly draws on the Lafite house’s experience in both the field and the cellar.

2018 was a year marked by weather challenges, especially in the first half of the growing season with large amounts of rain, but ended with a dry, warm and long summer, which resulted in healthy and ripe grapes for harvest. The style has a typical classic Médoc profile: dark fruit, dry tannins and a certain straightness, accompanied by discreet barrel notes and potential for development in the cellar. The wine is created with the potential for 5-10 years of aging.

Critic tasting note: (2018 vintage) "Named after a hamlet on the Lafite estate, this new creation from Lafite-Rothschild comes from selected parcels of the vineyard. It is a rich wine, worthy of the vintage and the estate. Balancing elegance with ripe black currant fruits, the wine is restrained and has some aging potential. It should be ready from 2025." - Wine Enthusiast

2018 Vintage Tasted: Dec 2022
This is a semi-new wine from Lafite Rothschild. The last time the name was used by Lafite was back in 1991. The wine emanates from a specific parcel in the Lafite vineyard, making it its own, unique wine. With little effort, you find flowers, herbs, tobacco leaf, and spicy currants. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, bright, crisp, and chewy, with a touch of crunch to the sweet, ripe, soft red currants, and green, earthy olives on the mid-palate and in the finish. This is a mini, mini version of Lafite Rothschild, so you get a nice one. true Pauillac character and the best part is, the wine sells for a song. Plus, you can enjoy this with pleasure on release. The wine is a blend of 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2023-2035.

2018 Vintage Tasted: Dec 2022
Fresh and bright with dried flowers, such as lavender and violets, with some black berries and currants. Medium body, fine tannins, with a nice and slightly bitter lemon and cedar aftertaste. Why wait? New third wine from Lafite from a special parcel just east of the chateau. Very drinkable. Drink or hold.
