Sarget de Gruaud-Larose 2000
/ #61921543
As the second wine from one of the Saint-Julien appellation's renowned châteaux, this wine draws on the same terroir and traditions as the main wine. Sarget de Gruaud-Larose is made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, delivering an authentic expression of left-bank Bordeaux in the classic style.
The 2000 vintage is widely considered to be among the best Bordeaux vintages of the past half century, characterised by ripe tannins, balance and depth. This gives Sarget a rare combination of early availability and the ability to develop positively with further ageing, with fruit, tobacco and slightly animalic nuances integrating elegantly over time.
Gruaud-Larose is known for its precision and ability to make wines with solid structure, even in their second wine. The result is a harmonious Saint-Julien with great freshness and a classic profile, which in this vintage appears unusually well-rounded.
