Viña Tondonia comes from a large, iconic vineyard close to the Ebro River, where Tempranillo forms the main part, flanked by Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. The 2012 vintage featured solid growing seasons in Rioja Alta with generally fresher structure and good balance. The wine often appears with ripe red fruit aromas, fine tertiary elements and a slight animalic touch. Barrel spices frame the expression without dominating.
The development potential is usually long-lasting; the bottles can easily age for a decade or more. Several renowned critics comment on the consistent quality of the house from this period, and both Wine Advocate and Vinous have given solid ratings to the vintage.
