Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo Rosso di Montalcino 2000
/ #65284392
Label has damage.
Tenuta Greppo is home to one of Montalcino's most traditional producers, who has been central to the development of the area. This Rosso di Montalcino is made exclusively from Sangiovese from the estate's own vineyards and is usually aged longer than typical for the appellation, but without reaching the intensity of the house's Brunello. The wine is aged in large botti, which supports a classic, straight style with a focus on elegance rather than heaviness.
The 2000 vintage in Montalcino has generally delivered ripe wines with softer tannins, befitting the fresh character of Rosso di Montalcino. In this edition, the expression is typical of the producer, with red fruit, acidity and a slightly spicy note that reflects both the terroir and the conservative vinification. The aging potential is often higher than for regular Rossos from the area, but this vintage is now well developed and ready to drink.
