Monte Sant'Urbano is one of the best-known single-vineyard expressions from Speri, a family-owned producer with deep roots in the Valpolicella Classica area. The wine is made exclusively in good vintages, and the vineyards are located in Fumane on calcareous soils, which contribute to the complexity and structure of the finished wine. The grapes—typically Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara—are traditionally dried until winter before fermentation, which concentrates the sugars and flavors.

1982 was a solid year in Veneto, with conditions that produced classic and structured wines. Monte Sant'Urbano has the potential for long aging due to its concentrated style and balance between acidity and tannins. In mature age, Amarone can deliver dried fruit notes, licorice, tobacco and hints of spice, while the deeper layers often develop with time in the bottle. Speri's approach leans towards a more classic, dry and well-structured style, which is different from the more modern, fruit-driven versions.
