Carlo Ferragu Valpolicella Superiore 2016
/ #7208507The wine is produced by Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella from 2.5 hp acres of fields. These fields are east-west facing so they get a lot of sun, and they are located in approx. 250 meters altitude. The vines are approx. 15-20 years and is planted densely with approx. 13,000 vines per hectare. On the other hand, the sticks only produce approx. 800 g per vine - but 800 g of high quality grapes. All grapes are hand-harvested in early October and shipped gently to the winery in small boxes. The grapes are then left to dry for 30 days. After crushing and fermenting the wine, it has been barrel aged for 24 months in small American oak barrels and then min. 6 months in the bottle before release. Approx. 20,000 bottles of this vintage
This Superiore beats most Amarones
The color is completely dark ruby red. Rich aromas of ripe dark fruits as well as notes of vanilla, spices and raisins. The wine is full-bodied, finely structured and with adequate acidity. Taste of bold dark fruit in a wildly concentrated style, and complex notes of exciting spices, vanilla and dish. The aftertaste is heavenly and lingers for a very long time.
Serve the wine at 16-17 ° degrees for the optimal wine experience. Let the wine decant for min. 2-3 hours before serving so it really gets opened up to its potential. Ideal accompaniment to autumn simmer dishes, strong beef, game or ripe cheeses. The wine is also obvious as a luxury meditation wine of the very intense and powerful wine types. In addition, the fat Danish Christmas duck will love being matched with this Ferragu Valpolicella Superiore!
