Jean-Marc Millot, Vosne-Romanée 2015
Archetypal VR with nascent complexity and maturity. Ready to drink now, but still has good storage potential. 2 pieces are offered.
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne 1. cru Les Caillerets 2016
"Les Caillerets" is Pierre-Yves' own favorite 1st cru Chassagne with an outstanding acid/fruit balance and pronounced minerality. Bought on release and then stored in a wine fridge. Perfect bottle.
Duroché, Estournelles Saint-Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1. cru 2014
Latest CT note: Impressive nose of various floral, dark fruits; silky, juicy and elegant palate with many minerals. A lovely wine to enjoy now.
Pierre Duroché belongs to the absolute elite in Gevrey-Chambertin and his wines are therefore almost impossible to obtain. I have kept the bottles from a 12-pack in a wine fridge since release. Perfect condition. The incipient maturity is slowly opening the wine's drinking window, but there is also still good aging potential.
Bruno Giacosa, Rabaja Barbaresco 2004
CT note (96 p): Very intense nose of cherry, tobacco and wilted rose. The palate is spectacularly pure. It is very Burgundian in style, with an obvious presence. The juice is wildly elegant with a complexity to die for, the mouthfeel is magnificent, silky, before the power, all contained, coats the tongue with aromas of blood orange and leather. The second salvo is more grassy with sweet spices. The balance and coherence of the whole is impressive, it traces in the mouth thanks to a structure and an acidity of the most noble. Final with powdery tannins where the floral aromas come back in force to finish on a vibrant length.
Has reached the age/maturity where the Nebbiolo grape unfolds its full potential. Perfect storage in the wine fridge and A-stand. Bought on release - therefore only one owner.
Armand Rousseau, Clos St.-Jacques 1. cru 2002
CT note (96 p): Pale yarn. Pronounced complex nose. Beautiful bouquet. Drink fruit - blackberries, red fruit - raspberries, liquorice, Chinese tea, sous-bois, mushroom, toast, smoke, cinnamon, nuts. Fully developed. Dry, high acidity, medium-fine tannins, medium-alcohol, med+ body, pronounced flavours, Long finish. Absolutely fabulous mature Burgundy. Amazing intensity on the nose and palate, finish that goes on and on. No hurry to drink but definitely at its peak now.
Unicorn Grand Cru from the King of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vintage 2002 is from the era when Charles Rousseau reached his summit. The bottle has perfect provenance and fill. Acquired directly from the official Danish importer (invoice available). Since then stored in my Liebherr wine cabinet at optimal temperature and humidity. Perfect labels.
Arlaud, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru 2013
CT note: Medium yarn. Discreet nose with very complex aromas of red and dark fruit with a whole cluster touch. Elegant presence on the palate, good volume and dry extract providing structure. This is a sublime Burgundy, reminds me of the DRC style both structurally and aromatically. If you are a fan of elegant, aromatic Burgundies, you will love this. Wait until 2023 until this is in full bloom.
Sublime Grand Cru from one of the area's most skilled producers. Perfect condition and storage since release.
Jean-Marc Millot, Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014
Perfect storage and condition. Bought on release from a Danish importer (invoice shown).
Massolino, Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva 2001
Mention the field "Rionda" and any Barolo fan will go soft in the knees. Great mature vintage with beginning tertiary notes. Perfect condition and storage. Only one owner.
Domaine d'Eugenie, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2014
CT note: Delicate and precise. This is so fine and lacey. It took about 2 hours to open up. Initially shy and restrained, it quietly grew into a beautifully balanced and complex wine.
Complexity and intensity are the epitome of d'Eugenie's spot, which is one of the best located plots in Vougeot.
Lamarche, Echezeaux Grand Cru 2005
Huge vintage for Lamarche. Perfect condition and storage.
Domaine Duroché, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2010
CT note: OK, now we are talking, a big step up from the Premier Crus. The nose is sophisticated here with that beautiful, so distinctively French mix of game/musk/earth intermixed with red fruit. This, unlike the 2010 Beze, was really ready to drink. A sophisticated charm.
Epic vintage from one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most sophisticated producers. The style is elegant, balanced and balsamic with lots of RED fruit. Drinkable Grand Cru, but still good storage potential. Perfect condition and storage.
Duroché, Lavaut Saint-Jacques Gevrey Chambertin 1. cru 2014
Latest CT note: Light red color. Good combination of fruit and soil aromas. Light weight. Again, excellent fruit/soil mix on the palate. Delicate, light tannins. So much more Gevrey character than Mortet and successful for the vintage.
Perfect condition and storage. Bought on release.
Caroline Morey, Caillerets 1. cru Chassagne-Montrachet 2016
CT notes: Mineral, but a little more floral on the nose vs PY's. A sense of being a fraction more open, but similar mineral grip, line and length. A very special bottle...nice backbone but with a slew of aromas that linger forever...top class.
More and more people prefer Caroline's style to Pierre-Yves. Same high quality, but more open and feminine in expression. Caillerets is, as always, the most calcareous/mineral field in Chassagne. Perfect condition and storage. Bought from importer.
Rossignol-Trapet, Chambertin Grand Cru 2005
CT note: Wonderfully balanced and in great shape! It needed 1-2 hours to really open up and gain weight, but was expressive the entire evening. The nose screamed Chambertin, with bright red fruit (cherry, strawberry), damp earth, licorice and spice. Well balanced, concentrated, complex and intriguing.
The drinking age Chambertin. Perfect condition and storage. Only one owner.
Berthaut-Gerbet, Les Petits Monts 1. cru Vosne-Romanée 2017
CT note: Expressive nose displaying perfectly ripe black and red fruit, Asian spice, rose, sap, sweet spices and limestone. Very good concentration, beautifully layered black and red fruit, silky and precise, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long pure black and red fruit driven finish. Really enjoyable.
Temperate vintage (2017), which highlights the terroir and the fruit/acid balance.
Salon, Cuvée "S" Le Mesnil 1996
Unicorn Champagne and vintage. Perfect provenance and fill. Acquired from the official Danish importer (invoice available). Since then stored in a wine cabinet at optimal temperature and humidity. Original wooden box and booklet. Extremely rare and hard to find these days. Only available magnum is priced at 6,700 euros according to Wine-Searcher.
Burlotto, Barolo Cannubi 2015
CT note (96 p): This was at it's peak about 30 minutes after being opened. Huge nose of red cherry, cranberry, exotic spice and floral tones. It's deep and slightly firm with waves of flavor that unfold one after the other, cherry, spice, along with floral and tar notes. It's powerful but balanced by a classic profile with slightly chewy tannins. The finish goes on forever and keeps you wanting for more. This is in its early drinking window but would expect a bit more development once the tannins ease a bit. It will be hard to let these sleep but this should be near perfection in 5+ years.
Acquired on release and since then stored in my Liebherr wine cabinet at optimal temperature and humidity. Perfect provenance, fill and labels.
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2016
CT note: Beautiful glowing, medium ruby color. Clean, intense nose with a lot of fine red fruit, some herbs and wonderfully balanced. On the palate beautiful lively acidity, 13.5% abv, high, fine and velvet tannin. Lots of ripe red fruit, oak beautifully integrated as a solid backbone and giving the wine a wonderful texture. Very pure and mineral. It is all about balance and elegance. Long finish.
Acquired on release and since then stored in my Liebherr wine cabinet at optimal temperature and humidity. Perfect provenance, fill and labels.
Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo Monprivato 2001
CT note (96 p): Structured and classically proportioned, deep and broad with terrific balance. It's interesting as the last bottle I had was in prime time, this is just the previews. Based on my last two bottles, I'd say this wine is at a youthful peak. Super either way..
Stored in my Liebherr wine cabinet since I acquired a six-pack at release. Good provenance and fill. Cork and labels in perfect conditions. The window for consumption has opened, but there is still a solid potential for further improvement.
