Domaine Paul Bruno

2 completely unique bottles in each year 1994 and 1995

In the early 1990s, the famous Bordeaux winemakers Bruno Prats (Château Cos d'Estournel) and Paul Pontallier (Château Margaux) discovered the high caliber of Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile's Alto Maipo region at the foot of the Andes mountains. They collaborated with their colleague Felipe de Solminihac, a well-known Chilean agronomist, oenologist and winemaker in the region. They acquired 45 hectares in the 'Quebrada de Macul', historically the heart of the Maipo Valley vineyards, and Viña Aquitania was born. In January 2003, Ghislain de Montgolfier (CEO of Bollinger Champagne), became the fourth musketeer.

They planted on a high quality terroir to create an original and unique vineyard. The first vines came from Bordeaux, and since then it is the same vines that have been cultivated in Chile since the end of the nineteenth century. A climate zone with good sun exposure with significant temperature variation, without reaching extremes, no rain at the time of maturity and the harvest of grapes, together with the possibility of irrigation during the growing season make this place a fantastic terroir.

18 hectares are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah at an altitude of 700 meters and with a density of 4,000 p/ha, trellised with four wires. The clean and healthy environment limits treatments with chemicals. The vineyard's soil is on red clay soil, rich in organic matter, where the vine has all the elements for good development and balanced production of high quality.
