Barbera d' Asti Zavattero Barbara 1999

/ #11434199
Size: 1.5 L (Magnum)
Red

Recognized as a Controlled Designation of Origin way back in 1970, Barbera d'Asti has undergone the most interesting developments in recent times, which materialized in 2000 with the inclusion in the disciplinary of three distinct sub-zones, Nizza (autonomous DOC since 2016), Tinella and Colli Astiani, and in 2008 with the recognition of the Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, testimony of the growth path taken.

Grown on the best exposed hills of the Asti and Monferrato areas, Barbera is usually harvested in the second half of September. If in the field the production process is univocal, marked as it is in the search for quality, in the cellar there are two interpretations that have established themselves. Alongside the vinification in steel, which gives life to fresher and more immediate wines, the use of barriques and casks has developed, aimed at producing the Superiore type, more complex and destined for a postponed consumption over time. Although immediate and easy to drink, Barbera d'Asti is a wine capable of waiting for years for the best moment to be consumed.

Fantastic example of Barbaresco Gaja Sori San Lorenzo from 1968 The term Sorì indicates the portion of the hillside facing south, while Lorenzo is the patron saint of the Cathedral of the city of Alba, whose parish benefice was the owner until 1964 of the vineyard subsequently purchased by the Gaja family. It is almost always the most powerful and perhaps the most majestic of the five single vineyards of Gaja, the one that later reaches full maturation in the bottle. CELLAR: Gaja NAME: Langhe Nebbiolo DOC GRAPES: Nebbiolo 95% - Barbera 5% Piemonte region YEAR: 1998 ALCOHOL: 14.5% IN THE VINEYARD: Natural manure as a fertilizer, use of only copper and sulfur as a pesticide YEASTS: Indigenous AGING: Medium and small barrels PERFECT WITH: Meats PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Produced from 95% Nebbiolo and 5% Barbera grapes from Sorì San Lorenzo, located in the territories of the Barbaresco DOCG denomination, more precisely in the Municipality of Barbaresco; by choice of Angelo Gaja it was decided to leave the DOCG. In the vineyard, the yield per hectare is around 40 quintals. In the cellar, the fermentation on the skins lasts 3-4 weeks and takes place in steel tanks, at a temperature of 24-28°C. The aging in wood takes place in barriques for the first 12 months and in large barrels for the remaining 12; before being put on the market, the wine rests in glass for a few months. EVOLUTION CAPACITY A wine with excellent evolutionary prospects. SMALL TIPS Drink it at a temperature of 16°, combined with roasts and/or game

Here in the ad an exemplary tale of Barolo Extra Aged Monfortino by Giacomo Conterno from 1941 Excellent condition despite the age, in fact the label shows signs of wear and the level of the joint has just decreased but the color has remained perfect Giacomo Conterno's Monfortino is one of the most prestigious red wines in Italy, a true legend of the Langhe. Monfortino is a Barolo, an expressive, deep and territorial Barolo, just like the cellar founded by the Conterno family in 1900. The first time a Monfortino label appeared was in 1924, as the vineyards were mostly near Monforte d 'Alba, while since 1974 Monfortino has been produced with grapes from Vigna Francia di Serralunga d'Alba. The bunches are chosen with care and abundance, vinification takes place through an alcoholic fermentation process in oak vats with maceration on the skins; subsequent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels from Austria. The refinement lasts 84 months and is carried out in large barrels. Barolo Monfortino has an intense garnet red color, the olfactory notes are divided into mint and flowers, with hints of violet, roses, wisteria, licorice and cloves. The taste, at the moment of tasting, is tenacious and balanced, accompanied by a note of tannic acid, sweet and nuanced, with a long persistence. Barolo Monfortino is a wine of great longevity, already of the highest quality if drunk when it is released on the market, but it is recommended to let it rest in the cellar to better appreciate its great qualities that will mature over time. Monfortino can be left to rest in the cellar for more than 20 years. Monfortino is a traditional Barolo produced with Nebbiolo grapes of the best quality and with a unique characteristic: It is able to age in an excellent way for tens of years. Even after many years of aging they do not seem to affect the quality of this wine.

CT-note (96 p): Very intense nose of cherry, tobacco and wilted rose. The palate is spectacularly pure. It is very Burgundian in style, with an obvious presence. The juice is wildly elegant with a complexity to die for, the mouthfeel is magnificent, silky, before the power, all contained, coats the tongue with aromas of blood orange and leather. The second salvo is more grassy with sweet spices. The balance and coherence of the whole is impressive, it traces in the mouth thanks to a structure and an acidity of the most noble. Final with powdery tannins where the floral aromas come back in force to finish on a vibrant length. Har nået den alder/modenhed, hvor nebbiolo-druen udfolder sit fulde potentiale. Perfekt opbevaring i vinkøleskab og A-stand. Købt ved frigivelsen - derfor kun én ejer.

he Sori Tildin is one of the three legendary single layers Barbaresco by Angelo Gaja. It is located above the Costa Russi site and is the most elegant of the three crus due to its altitude. Sori denotes a south-facing location and Tildin derives from the nickname of Anelo's grandmother. This Barbaresco was bottled for the first time with the 1970 vintage. Between 1996 and 2012, this wine was labeled as Langhe DOC because they wanted to be free to integrate the Barbera, which was also grown in this location. Since the 2013 vintage, the Sori Tildin, like the other Gaia vineyards, has once again been under the umbrella of the DOCG Barbaresco and is 100% Nebbiolo. This famous wine is one of the best you can have in a glass. Long lasting, complex, structured and very deep. A great red wine. The Decanter magazine writes about the 2017 Sori Tildin Barbaresco: "It shows delightful purity of fruit and fragrance on the nose, with lifted and fresh raspberry aromas. Although suave and velvety on the palate, there are robust and assertive Tannins beneath the fruit. This has tension and gravitas, more so than Costa Russi in this vintage. Very long. 95/100" Falstaff magazine is at 96/100 and writes: "Sparkling, medium-dense ruby garnet. Catchy nose with fresh notes of raspberry and cherry, some ginger in the background. Extremely polished on the palate, shows a lot of dense mesh Tannin with a sweet core, describes a long arc." PARKER (94) The Gaja 2017 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn opens to a luminous ruby appearance with pretty crimson highlights. This vintage appears lighter in color and concentration compared to past editions. The bouquet delivers a purity and sharpness nonetheless, but it offers less overall fruit. It shows subtle berry tones with blue flower, aniseed and candied orange peel. This very young Sorì Tildìn takes time to open, and it remains on the nervous side even after it has been given ample time in the glass. The best course of action is to wait until the 10-year mark before opening this bottle. It needs that extra time to soften and flesh out. WINESPECTATOR / JAMES SUCKLING (98) Extremely perfumed with strawberries, flowers, cherries and hints of ash and tar. Medium to full-bodied with tightness and raciness to the tannins. Polished, too. Very, very persistent. persistent. Please note that the white background on the labels has some grey notes, marks were there already when originally bought

A wine which, as the counter-label of the time states, "does not come from ancient possessions, but from man's toil"; and which has a challenging and dutiful goal: to redeem the wine of Treiso Pertinace, starting from the name, borrowed from the Roman leader and emperor Publio Elvio Pertinace, who was born where the cellar stands, has been witness since 1973 of an attachment to the land and to tradition that has never made concessions to fashions and trends. On a technical level, Pertinace has developed a style of vinification and aging that has remained faithful to the large barrels, even when the barrique winds blew strongly on those hills. Treiso is part, together with Barbaresco, Neive and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, of the 4 municipalities of Barbaresco DOCG; for some years the disciplinary has introduced the Additional Geographical Mentions, micro-territories to which the name of the vineyard can be added, including Castellizzano, Marcarini and Nervo, well represented in the Pertinace range. Today the winery represents 20 members, for 110 hectares of regular rows that wind through the hills of the Langhe, and produces great Barbaresco DOCG in respect of tradition, with an aging capacity of up to 40 years, as evidenced by some 1982 magnums kept , but not jealously, in the cellar. A wine, Barbaresco, which karma always has to deal with the other expression of Nebbiolo, Barolo, with respect to which, without detracting from the c.d. "King of wines", however, emerges for finesse, elegance, and great combinations.

Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes from the vineyards in the Manzoni Soprani area, the "Vigna d'la Roul" takes its name from the mammoth oak tree that shoots up in the middle of the land. A Barolo of decided austerity, whose maturation takes place in barriques for about 36 before a further stop of a year in the bottle. The fundamental characteristics of this wine are the clean and pungent aromas and the structure, determined by a sure incisive tannin. The most "masculine" of the wines produced by Rocche dei Manzoni.

Splendid lot consisting of 5 bottles of Spanna Castello San Lorenzo from 1972 by the master winemaker Antonio Vallana The production area falls within the municipality of Gattinara, in the province of Vercelli. Like other prestigious Piedmontese wines, Gattinara is also produced from Nebbiolo grapes. The name probably derives from "Catuli Ara" or Ara di Catullo. In fact, it seems that the city of Gattinara rises in the place where the Proconsul Lutatius Catulus sacrificed to the gods the war spoils of the Cimbri conquered in the surrounding area in 101 BC. Recent archaeological finds attest that wine has been produced in this area since Roman times. The Marquis of Gattinara, Cardinal Mercurino Arborio, Chancellor of Charles V and lover of the wine of his lands, dared to present this wine to the Court of the King of Spain. The Gattinara wine, in fact, links its name to this famous diplomat, enthusiastic admirer and indefatigable taster, who popularized its fame by offering it as an effective means of diplomatic negotiation.

A great wine from Gaja produced in small volumes (~12000 bottles per year). 99 points James Suckling "The aromas of fresh rose petals are amazing with strawberries and citrus underneath. Full-bodied and layered with a complete, very linear and long finish. It turns tight and very serious at the end. Please give this at least five years to show it’s potential. Better after 2025." 96 Wine Spectator "This tightly wound red is dense with black cherry, black currant, plum, tar and iron flavors as well as tannins. Shows a lot of power and persistence, with all the components in the right proportion, ending with a long, resonant aftertaste." 95+ Robert Parker, 95 Decanter Drinking window 2025-2045 100% Nebbiolo Please note that labels are in good condition and that one of the labels has a small color deviation in upper left corner which has been there since the start.
