Offley Colheita 2001 is an exceptional 20 year old tawny, with sumptuous bouquet of dried fruit, licorice, good body, depth and length with just a touch of acid to keep the balance on top of nuts and confectionery. A great Port!
Offley Forrester is one of the historic Port Wine Houses, founded in 1737. In 1787, the house was considered one of the leading "British" houses in Oporto. In 1831, James Forrester was employed in the house and later became co-owner and director. He was one of the great intellectuals of the time, politically as well as artistically - and was knighted in 1855 as Baron Forrester by the King of Portugal for a series of maps of the Douro (one of them can be seen here). He was a very good friend of Dona Antonia Ferreira and accompanied her on a journey from Quinta Vesuvio down the river. The boat sank and the baron drowned (due to heavy belts with gold coins!), While Antonia survived thanks to her "balloon dress". In 1995, Offley Forrester was bought by Sogrape, who had bought Ferreira 8 years earlier. Thus, ´Ferrester and Ferreira met again — well 130 years after the Baron's death! Photo: The basement of the house in Gaia. Baron Forrester's old hunting lodge over Pinhao is today a hotel (pousada, the undersigned lived there). The Baron's card.
Technical: Long fermentation and maceration with shells and part of the stems, fermentation stopped with brandy. Only the best wines are selected for this colheita. In the spring, the wine is transported to the cellar in Gaia, where lagrign starts first in small barrels, then in dry oak barrels until bottling in 2020.
Winemaker: Luis Sottomayor, Alcohol (ABV): 20%, Acidity: 4.9 g / l, Residual sugar: 130 g / l
Setubal is the third major liqueur wine from Portugal itself, which is not nearly as well known as Port wine (but the quantities are also small). The best known producer is J.M. Fonseca (1834), who delivers quite a hardy dessert dessert on the muscat grape, where the grape skins are included during fermentation - it gives more flower in the scent. This 20-year-old is impressive, but is mature now. Photo: The house's famous quinta (which is also seen on the red wine Periquita).
Moscatel de València -is a very sweet white wine, made in a modern way with cold fermentation in Baronia de Turis. Vien won a gold medal in Bordeaux at Vinexpo in 1995.
