Chateau troplong mondot 2021
/ #40075696
With possessions of some of Saint-Èmilion's highest-situated vineyards on the plateau right next to Château Pavie and the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Troplong Mondot can today be described as one of Saint-Èmilion's all-time greats.
It was especially the Valette family, and not least the now deceased Christine Valette, who lifted Troplong Mondot towards new heights through the 80s with a focus on quality and massive investments as a result. Therefore, it was fully deserved that the castle was upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé during the revision of the Saint-Èmilion classification in 2006.
Today, the castle is owned by the insurance company SOCR, which continues the quality focus that Valette started. Therefore, shortly after the takeover, another restoration project of the cellars was also initiated, which was completed in 2020.
For the past 20 years, the castle's 37 hectares of vineyards have been cultivated according to ecological principles and a focus on biodiversity. All harvesting is done by hand with a selection both in the field and later on arrival at the vineyard. The wine ferments under temperature-controlled conditions in steel and is then aged for 16-24 months in French oak, of which approx. 2/3 are new.
