The Special Selection label has been reserved for the top edition of the house's Cabernet Sauvignon since 1978. The grapes are selected from specially selected plots in Napa Valley, where the producer is known for cultivating a rich and full-bodied style with generous dark fruit notes, silky tannins and a distinct touch of barrel aging. The 2017 vintage was characterized by a warm growing season, which nevertheless ended in a balanced expression, where the fruit is well-ripened and the structure is intact, albeit a little earlier drinking age than more classic years. Special Selection often ages with great development over 15-20 years, but is accessible in the style already in its youth. Wine Advocate noted the 2017 edition with 95 points. The bottle size of 6L further contributes to a slower maturation process.
